Working together to end the commercial sexual exploitation of children and youth

The CSEC Action Team brings together individuals with lived experience, advocates, community based organizations, and public agencies from across California to turn knowledge into action—working collectively to prevent and address the commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) of children and youth.

“Every young person deserves safety, support, and a future full of possibility. The CSEC Action Team works to ensure youth impacted by exploitation are seen, heard, and valued. Together, we’re changing systems, challenging injustices, and creating real pathways to healing and joy.”

— Leslie Heimov and Kate Walker Brown

Co-Chairs of the CSEC Action Team

Partnering with lived experience experts

The CSEC Action Team’s Advisory Board is made up of nine individuals with lived experience—adult survivors of commercial sexual exploitation, commonly referred to as child sex trafficking. They offer expert guidance to stakeholders working to improve services for youth and families impacted by CSE. Now in its ninth year, the board contributes to developing policies, prevention and intervention strategies, enhancing housing and placement services, creating training curricula, and providing technical assistance on individual cases, and more, ensuring that systems center the voices and leadership of those with lived experience.

“They helped me develop skills that made me a better leader, a better survivor-mentor, and allowed me to show up in spaces and places that I otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to be in.”

— Ashley Chesney, Executive Director, Set Free Monterey Bay & Former Advisory Board Member to the CSEC Action Team
